Melvilles 1858 Directory of Kent.

YALDING is a village and parish, forty-nine miles from London, seven miles S.W. from Maidstone, and eight miles from Tunbridge, in the union of Maidstone, and hundred of Twyford, and lathe of Aylesford, West Kent. The population in 1851 was 2678, and consists principally of one street. The Medway is navigable for barges to this place. The church of St. Peter and St. Paul consists of a nave, side aisles, and transept, with a square tower. The living is a vicarage. There is also a small chapel for Baptists. Here is a station of the South-Eastern Railway, on the Maidstone branch. In the neighbourhood are Woodfall, Latingford, Great and Little Pigfish, Woolsey Place, Benover Street, and Congelow.
