HIGHAM is a parish and village, with a railway station, three miles and a
half N. W. from Rochester, and five miles east from Gravesend. The population in
1851 was 843. The church is very ancient. The living is a vicarage, in the
patronage of the Master Fellows, and Scholars of. St. John the Evangelist,
Cambridge, to whom the manor belongs; the Rev. Joseph Hindle, B.A., is the
incumbent. Lillechurch, Oakley, and Mockbeggar, are to the east.
